Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Habaneros Grill and Los Habaneros BY KAREN ANDERSON SPECIAL TO WEST HAWAII TODAY Gather your amigos and check out two great spots for celebrating Cinco de Mayo today: Habaneros Grill in Kailua-Kona, and Los Habaneros at Keauhou Shopping Center. With live music and overflow seating, both venues will be serving special Cinco de Mayo entrées, plus $4 Coronas and lots of fiesta fun. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Habaneros Grill will keep patrons entertained with live mariachistyle music at the restaurant. Throughout the day and evening, bartenders be serving discounted libations to include $4 bottled Coronas, $4 draft beer, $4 sangria, and $6 Corona Ritas. In addition to its fabulous regular menu, Habaneros Grill will be preparing special dishes for Cinco de Mayo including tamales, pozole, and mixote, which is a traditional Mexican dish prepared with chicken and special sauce. Everything at both Habaneros Grill and Los Habaneros is made fresh daily. Meanwhile at Los Habaneros, Cinco de Mayo specials will include chipotle ribs, and chicken mole. Bottled Corona will be priced at $4. Live music will also be featured. Habaneros Grill and Los Habaneros are both owned by Chef Armando Altamirano and his wife, Cara. A native of Mexico City, Armando brings the genuine flavors and specialty dishes of Mexico to Habaneros Grill, where traditional offerings like tacos, quesadillas and burritos share the menu with contemporary Mexican cuisine such as Ribeye A La Parrilla, a 10-oz. grilled steak marinated with olive oil, roasted jalapeños, garlic and lime topped with tropical salsa.
