Setting out to become fluent in English, he moved to Kona in 1999 and began working at Royal Thai Café at Keauhou Shopping Center. In 2008, Yam purchased Royal Thai Café from the original owners. The landmark restaurant has always had a loyal following of patrons, which is why Yam decided to keep the popular, original menu. Yam makes all his sauces in house, including a total of five famous spicy sauces. Two years ago, Yam completely renovated the restaurant’s interiors and the kitchen, enhancing the finedining atmosphere with high ceilings and chandeliers like restaurants found in Thailand. Royal Thai Café is a family affair. Yam’s father, mother and brother help out in the front of the restaurant, greeting and seating patrons.
