6 ONO-LICIOUS | APRIL 21, 2017 Word on the Str(eat)! Bongo Ben’s “We went to Bongo Ben’s for breakfast twice as it was close to our hotel. If you are in a small group and if you don’t mind waiting see if you can get a table on the front porch or even better at the bar style tables facing the beach. From there you will have a great view across Ali’i Drive towards the beach and waterfront. Breakfast was delicious and we tried some of their sweet as well as some of their savory dishes. They offer bottomless coffee and put a thermos of coffee on your table. Service was attentive when we visited and serving sizes were generous. Bongo Ben’s is one of the more expensive restaurants in town, but on the other hand you get good food in a top location close to the water.” Spicki, Munich, Germany CanoeHouse “I have to say certainly “special occasion” worthy. This open aired eatery at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel offers incredible ocean views and upscale gourmet food. We were excited to come back to this spot having stayed at this hotel and dined here in years past. Simply stated, the CanoeHouse did not disappoint. There is a wide variety of scrumptious seafood and other items on the menu. We both enjoyed the “fresh from the sea” Mahi Mahi. It was prepared with a macadamia nut crust and served with rice and a pineapple salsa. Superb. Of course service is top notch here too and our server Rosie, made sure of that. We were celebrating a birthday and anniversary the night we dined. Well here that called for 2 complimentary desserts. Both were amazing and quite delicious too. The food was outstanding and the atmosphere just couldn’t be any better. Be sure to make a reservation to secure your spot at this gem. You will want to come back!” Rachel W., Minneapolis, MN Charley’s Thai Cuisine “I have eaten here many times. The service is excellent and the food delicious. I usually get Pad Thai or the curry dishes.” phxflygirl, Phoenix, Arizona Daiichi Ramen “My girlfriend and I have been waiting for this place to open since we saw that there where opening here. For there grand opening we went and had the Charsiu Ramen with Miso base and a Charsiu Udon. The food came in faster then expected and it was divine. We went that day not just because we love noodles and soup but to celebrate an overdue celebration of Naruto ending (a Japanese anime) and what better way to celebrate by cosplaying as your favorite ninja and enjoying his favorite ramen. Thank you to the people at Daiichi for being very polite and efficient. My friends, my family, my girlfriend and I will definitely be coming back.” Brandon P., Kailua-Kona, HI Ippy’s Hawaiian BBQ “Ippy’s food is good for a food court. Their burgers can complete with any of the high end restaurants for half the price. The hidden gem is the Coconut Chicken Curry Stew. Hands down the best curry on then Island. Portions are big ( sometimes huge ) and the rotisserie chicken is to die for. If you are hungry, and want a tasty meal for a good price then Ippy’s is your place.” DjVinyljunke, Waikoloa Island Fish & Chips at King’s Shops “Perfect yet… yes, five stars yet there is room for some improvement. There were four of us in our group, each ordering something different. I will break each dish down. 1. Fish and chips - wow! Just wow! Meaty fish in a crispy batter.
