April 21, 2017 Daiichi Ramen Daiichi Ramen, the popular, family-owned restaurant on Oahu, has just opened its first neighbor island location at Kona Commons Shopping Center in Kailua-Kona. The grand opening took place on Easter weekend, marking the sixth location for Daiichi Ramen, which was founded in 2000 by Paul Ke and his family in Aiea, Oahu. Occupying the former Taco del Mar location at Kona Commons, the newly renovated space features granite countertops, beautiful wood paneling, intimate lighting, plenty of table and barstool seating, plus sushi-bar-style counter with seating for up to 10 people. “We love Kona Commons, and this is where we wanted to begin our expansion outside of Oahu,” said Ben Cheng, managing partner of Daiichi Ramen. “We renovated the space to match the look of our newer stores on Oahu. It’s a friendly and warm atmosphere.
