8 ONO-LICIOUS | MARCH 31, 2017 Toast of the Town Privateer’s Cove unveils new menu Gumbo is back on the menu at Privateer’s Cove. An adventurous dining destination located in the Old Industrial, Privateer’s Cove changes up its menu every few weeks, depending on the specialty items that arrive from around the world each month. Chef/Owner Nick Traxler is currently serving up some tasty gumbo made with Alligator Andouille sausage, duck sausage, Kauai shrimp and crawfish. Kangaroo Pot Stickers are also on the menu, as well as camel burgers ($16) served every Wednesday for hump day. This week’s menu also includes four-cheese ravioli with a wild javelina meat sauce; rack of lamb from New South Wales; seafood risotto with U10 scallops and shrimp; and duck breast prepared with 46 Brandy Sauce from Spain. For lunch, the build-yourown stir-fry menu ($8) includes an array of ingredients to choose from, including chicken, beef, shrimp, chow mien, udon noodles and plenty of vegetables. Sauces include Thai peanut, coconut red curry, and Korean BBQ. Although exotic meats are the star attraction on the Privateer’s Cove menu, there are options for vegans and vegetarians too. The gourmet house salad features mixed greens, toasted almonds, feta cheese, and candied-bacon with blackberry vinaigrette ($5). The French truffle mac & cheese ($12) puts a new twist to an old favorite. ■ BY KAREN ANDERSON SPECIAL TO WEST HAWAII TODAY Lamb chops are served rare with lilikoi glaze, accompanied by mascarpone polenta.
