Sponsored by Friends of the Libraries, Kona, Nene Readers is a reading club at the Kailua-Kona Public Library for fourth through sixth graders that focuses on reading, enjoying, analyzing, and discussing Nene Award-nominated books. Words and Wine Tuesday in Keauhou Leslie Karst, Carol Thorsness and George John Douvris will be featured during Kona Stories Book Shop’s Words and Wine event at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Keauhou Shopping Center. Karst, who splits her time between California and Hawaii, is the author of the Sally Solari Mysteries, a culinary series set in Santa Cruz. She will discuss “A Measure of Murder.” Thorsness is a retired middle school teacher who lives in Northern California and Kailua- Kona. “Big Island ‘Ohana, An Unintended Romance” is her second novel. In “Crossing More Karma Zones: The Family Odyssey,” Douvris shares how his personal quest expands to include his wife and children, becoming a family odyssey to find a new homeland.
