ONO-LICIOUS | MARCH 3, 2017 5 KOA TABLE: Open daily from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m A variation of kalua pig nachos, Chef Ippy’s Mulitas features kalua pig, Jack cheese, Waimea tomatoes, cilantro and Maui onion toasted between crispy corn tortillas. For lunch, there’s everything from B.L.Ts and Yakitori Chicken sandwiches to fish & chips, garlic shrimp bowl, grilled Portobello sandwich and TKT burgers served on a Portuguese sweet bun. Check out appetizers like the ahi poke, sweet Maui onion rings, avocado hummus, or Korean fried chicken wings. The delicious lumpia features a Filipino crispy eggroll stuffed with adobe-style ground pork, shitake mushrooms, carrots and pickled onions. The Crabbie Piggie Salad brims with snow crabmeat, Waimea lettuce, fresh avocado, cherry tomatoes and crispy bacon. Most of the ingredients on the menu are sourced from local farmers, ranchers and purveyors. Chef Ippy held his first executive chef position at his mother’s Italian restaurant, Solimene’s, located in Waimea. After graduating from Hawaii Preparatory Academy, Chef Ippy pursued culinary training at Le Cordon Bleu in San Francisco. He then made a name for himself when he became a Season 8 finalist on TV’s Food Network Star, the youngest person to have been featured on the show. Named a top “30 Under 30” chef by Forbes in 2012, Chef Ippy prides himself on creating new and exciting dishes for his longtime, loyal patrons, visitors and newcomers.
