4 ONO-LICIOUS | MARCH 3, 2017 A la Carte Privateer’s Cove serves camel burgers on Wednesdays for Hump Day The most adventurous dining destination in Kona, Privateer’s Cove serves a variety of specialty game meat, none more popular than its weekly Camel Burgers. Served every Wednesday on Hump Day, the Camel Burgers at Privateer’s Cove feature ground camel meat from North Jordan, Africa, says Nick Traxler, chef/ owner of Privateer’s Cove. “Camel meat tastes like a combination of Angus beef and veal,” said Nick. “It’s super healthy at only 2 percent fat and zero saturated fat. We just changed up our recipe and are serving the burgers with mascarpone cheese and honey butter. We don’t add tomatoes or lettuce because it hides the flavor.” Accompanied by fries, the Camel Burger is priced at $16 for lunch and dinner. According to Nick, it’s one of the most popular items on his decidedly eclectic menu. Open six days a week, Monday through Saturday, for lunch and dinner, Privateer’s Cove is hosting a five-course prix fix dinner on St. Patrick’s Day. The special menu will feature pork-belly sliders, plus bangers and mash with stuffed alligator, buffalo, duck and antelope. The main course will be NY strip steak and crab-stuffed salmon with Kauai shrimp. The five-course prix-fixe dinners will take place once a month on Sunday. Reservations are required.
