March 3, 2017 Celebrity Chef Ippy Aiona opens Koa Table Restaurant at Kings’ Shops Locally inspired comfort food takes center stage at lakeside venue Located at the same venue as Chef Ippy Aiona’s former Three Fat Pigs restaurant, the newly opened Koa Table features delicious, lakeside dining at the Kings’ Shops in Waikoloa Beach Resort. After many successful years operating Three Fat Pigs, Chef Ippy decided to switch things up a bit, creating an all-new menu and concept that puts the focus on locally inspired comfort food. A native of Waimea, Chef Ippy gets his inspiration from his parents, both of whom owned dining establishments in Waimea when he was growing up. “The new menu reflects my life growing up here on the Big Island, and what our family liked to cook,” said the former finalist of TV’s Food Network Star. “I am really enjoying sharing the type of food that I grew up eating at my family’s koa dining table.” Chef Ippy’s fried Waipio Valley Poi Balls, for instance, reveal an innovative twist to the traditional island snack featuring greenonion marmalade, furikake, and bonito flakes. A hearty winter entrée, the tomato and cinnamon oxtail stew truly hits the spot.
