Open for lunch Tuesday through Friday beginning at 11 a.m., and Saturday beginning at 3 p.m., Habaneros Grill presents authentic Mexican cuisine in the heart of Kailua-Kona. Lunchtime is a great time to visit Habaneros Grill, where burritos, enchiladas, taquitos and tostados are just some of the traditional taqueria offerings in addition to metropolitan fare like the Carne Asada a la Mexicana served Veracruz style with homemade salsa. One of the most popular items at Habaneros Grill isn’t even listed on the menu but is available to patrons in the know. It’s the Seafood Enchilada Special featuring shrimp, fish and scallops wrapped in corn tortillas and laden with creamy pasilla sauce, avocado and red onions. As a prelude to any lunch entrée, be sure to try the Guajillo Tomato Soup served with tortilla strips, queso fresco and avocado. Another lunchtime favorite, toasted sandwiches feature everything from Mexican-style breaded chicken to slow-roasted pork or carne asada. Seafood dishes include “south-of-theborder” grilled ahi, garlic shrimp or chipotle shrimp accompanied with sizeable sides. Crispy salads showcase a bevy of mixed greens and homemade dressings. Unveiling a view of the ocean from its perch on Walua Road above Ali‘i Drive, Habaneros Grill also features a full cocktail bar and lounge, where piña colada margaritas make a refreshing, lunch-hour libation. ■ ONO-LICIOUS | FEBRUARY 10, 2017 A la Carte 7 Lunchtime menu at Habaneros Grill BY KAREN ANDERSON SPECIAL TO WEST HAWAII TODAY Salads at Habaneros Grill brim with island-fresh ingredients and homemade dressings.
