6 ONO-LICIOUS | FEBRUARY 3, 2017 Word on the Str(eat)! Bongo Ben’s Island Cafe We have eaten at this restaurant a number of times while visiting Kona. We have always had a wonderful dining experience and I would certainly recommend it to others. Of special note is the coconut battered onion rings. It is a wonderful appetizer with plenty to share and a terrific sauce. My husband had a fresh tuna sandwich that he really liked. I had rancho huevos with white rice and our friend had the pork chop and eggs with a pancake (a breakfast item). We went on a Sunday after church and they serve breakfast or lunch until 2:00 (I think!). Each of us enjoyed our meals, the outdoor atmosphere right across the street from the water, and the ambience. Several alcoholic beverages were offered at a special price. Denise C., Grand Haven, MI Sam Choy’s Kai Lanai This is a very open and airy place to eat. The seating is on the top of a hill at the edge of a cliff over looking the palm trees and pacific ocean. Very beautiful. The staff is very friendly and helpful, answering questions and offering tips about the island. The chicken was the best I’ve had in a very long time, not to mention the fantastic drinks. Very tranquil restaurant. Theresa L., Merrillville, Indiana Rays on the Bay It seems silly that our first night of our Hawaiian honeymoon, we ordered pizza but it was delicious pizza! The bar was excellent, bartenders were friendly and food was yummy. And this was the first place I was introduced to my new favorite drink, the lava flow. :) vapoogababy, Kenosha, WI Island Gourmet Market We usually stay at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott or the Kolea and enjoy walking to the Island Gourmet market at the Queens Marketplace for breakfast. They have THE best hot, authentic Japanese dishes ready to go. The Fried Rice and Gyoza are our favorites. If they sell out of them, you can place an order to have some made for you the next day. The market opens at 7 a.m. and their fresh hot foods sell out quickly. This store is a well stocked grocery store, liquor store and has a great department of Hawaii souvenirs. Be sure to bring shopping bags with you wherever you shop on the island because you are now charged for bags. (If you’re buying groceries at this market, they do use paper bags at no charge.) Also at Island Gourmet, save your receipts — for every $100 you spend, you get to choose a free gift. KonaMom2, Carmarillo, CA Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar I never want to repeat a restaurant visit but with this one, I almost couldn’t stop going! We went alone, then with another couple and then with our son and his family. Every one of us was VERY happy with our meal. From the six year old to the 76 year old!! Very pleasant service, good sized portions, delicious food. 40Sug San Jose, CA Romano’s Macaroni Grill Great service, great food, for a great price! We went there many times on our vacation & it was always a great experience with friendly staff & we always love the food there! If your looking for a familiar dining experience that won’t break the bank go there!!! YouCan S. Kailua-Kona, HI Charley’s Thai Cuisine Tried Charley’s in Waimea after a long day driving back from Hilo. Wow, what a nice find. The waitress was so sweet and helpful, and the food came out quickly and it tasted great. We had the fresh rolls, and yellow curry (delish!) and the mahi mahi with sweet chili sauce was very tasty. This place will be our go-to place for Thai in Waimea/Kamuela! Mel S. Waimea, HI CanoeHouse The meal was marvelous, the ambiance amazing and the service by Shelly was superior! We were engaged here by candlelight and serenaded by a lovely man. We ate, we cried, we conquered! Thank you CanoeHouse, for a magical and memorable experience! Jess S., Hamburg, NY Blue Dragon Restaurant We drove by this spot one night and saw the full parking lot, so we decided we had to try it ourselves. So glad we did! The food was very inventive and delicious. We loved eating outside under the stars where it was less noisy. The music was inside and there were lots of folks dancing and having fun. Great spot for a fun evening.
