Sam Choy’s “We were cruising the area and it was lunch time. Sam Choy’s was recommended by a friend and we heard food and view were good. It was mid-week at the beginning of lunch time so there were only a few couples. Lunch is a great way to experience good food at a reasonable price. Our meals were delicious and the breeze made the experience very relaxing. What a lunch.” Linda S, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Romano’s Macaroni Grill “We were celebrating a 70th birthday with 5 vivacious ladies. What an awesome evening eating the seafood linguini and delicious bread. Very attentive service even tho she was very busy with tables inside and out. Very refreshing as we ate outside on the lanai. We also received a free birthday desert we all shared. Yummy! Will recommend!” lolo2012superior, Two Harbors, Minnesota Chef-inspired comfort food takes center stage at The Koa Table, the newly opened restaurant at the Kings’ Shops unveiled by acclaimed local chef, Ippy Aiona. Located at the same lakeside venue as Chef Ippy’s former Three Fat Pigs restaurant, The Koa Table showcases an entirely new concept for the celebrity chef and finalist of TV’s “Food Network Star.” With his new menu, Chef Ippy pays homage to the cuisine he grew up on in nearby Waimea. The fried Waipio Valley Poi Balls, for example, offer a crispy, delicious take on the traditional-style snack, featuring greenonion marmalade, furikake and bonito flakes. Chef Ippy’s rainbow poke includes a mix of ahi, wild salmon and octopus blended with inamona, ogo, masago, Hilo tofu and Kona avocado. Most of the ingredients on the menu are locally sourced. Chef Ippy’s personal connections with local farmers, ranchers and purveyors derive from his upbringing in Waimea, where both his parents owned restaurants/eateries. Named a top “30 Under 30” chef by Forbes in 2012, Chef Ippy has experienced much success with his first restaurant, Three Fat Pigs. Always wanting to challenge himself and try new things, Chef Ippy decided that his new restaurant would focus on family-style, comfort food. The name, Koa Table, is inspired by the family dining table from his childhood. “The new menu reflects my life growing up here and what our family enjoyed cooking,” he said. “I invite everyone to come in and taste the food that I grew up eating on my family’s koa table.” The Koa Table is open daily for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 12 midnight. For information and reservations, call 808-339-7145. The newly opened Koa Table at the Kings’ Shops features locally inspired comfort food created by Chef Ippy Aiona.
