From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, nine Big Island artists who live in close proximity to each other in the Kona Palisades Estates area will open their studios to the public for touring and artists’ demonstrations of their work process with an opportunity to purchase art and get a jump on your holiday shopping. The nine artists are Roberts Bates (watercolors); Stefanie Culbertson (watercolors); Debra Dolsberry (silk painting); John Gaukel (mixed media); Cynthia Hankins (photography); Barbara Hanson (polymer clay); Bill Jaeger (stained glass); Kathleen Jaeger (acrylic painting and mosaic); and Bill Twibell (gyotaku, or fish printing). New releases Launch party slated for new Gary Washburn album Gary Washburn, longtime Honokaa High School Jazz Band director, will perform at a launch party for his new album, “Sassy,” on Thursday in Honokaa. With Washburn will be saxophonist Jesse Snyder, featured musician on the CD, who also plays with Grammy-nominated Hawaiian swing band, Kahulanui. Also joining in is vocalist Maelan Abran, who composed and performs “Irresistible,” one of the catchy tracks from the album. Washburn has also invited other musicians who played a part in “Sassy” to fill the evening with a variety of great music from smooth jazz to rhythm and blues, boogie-woogie, old school pop and more. There is no cover charge for the premier event, which will be held from 6-8:30 p.m., at Cafe Il Mondo on Mamane Street. “Sassy” was released Oct. 7, and is available on Amazon, iTunes and other digital venues. Big Island harpist to release album Cymber, a meditation harpist and composer, and winner of five Big Island Music Awards, is releasing her fourth CD, “Spa in a Box: 2017 Edition” on Thursday. Cymber combines her passion for harp music and her affinity for spas in this album that takes listeners on a journey of deep relaxation and rejuvenation in seven tracks, all in the time it takes for a hot bath.
