Workshops & classes APAC theater classes resume Aloha Performing Arts Company resumes its theater education program this month, with Jerry Tracy’s “Tuesday Troupers” class for 8-12 year olds starting Tuesday and running through Nov. 22, meeting 3:30 to 5:30 each Tuesday. The sixweek session focuses on performance skills such as projection, articulation, and characterization. The theme this session is food. Tuition is $60 per student. A parent or responsible family member must attend a brief meeting on Tuesday, immediately before class officially begins. Nicole Gour’s “Keiki Theatre” will meet from 4:30-5:30 p.m. on five Thursdays, Oct. 20 through Nov. 17. This class is designed for 4-7 year olds, and consists of structured play and theatre games, aimed at increasing self confidence and developing basic social and performance skills. Tuition is $50. A parent or responsible family member must attend a brief meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 20, immediately before the class officially begins. Both the above classes will be held at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu, and each will culminate in a free performance open to the public on the last class day. In addition, Felicity Johnson’s “Intergenerational Acting” class for actors of all ages will resume in December. Engela Edwards continues as adviser of APAC’s ongoing Aloha Teen Theatre, which meets Fridays from 4:30-7 p.m. at the APAC Loft, across the street and a half block south of the theater, on the second floor of the building housing The King’s Daughters Thrift Store. Botanical art workshops planned Linda Ann Vorobik will offer three botanical art workshops at the Society for Kona’s Education and Art this month. The first workshop Basic Botanical Drawing: Line and Form will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 22-23. The second, Advanced Botanical Watercolor, will run 6-9 p.m. Oct. 25-27. The third workshop is Beginning Botanical Watercolor and is offered 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 29-30. Cost for each workshop is $120. SKEA is located in Honaunau at 84-5191 Mamalahoa Highway. Asato offers bookbinding workshop Charlene Asato hosts a bookbinding workshop titled “The Piano Hinge, Unhinged” from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 29 at Volcano Art Center. The prized grand piano is known for its stunning acoustics, but have you ever noticed its lid hinge? The long hinge was designed for a piano because it combines strength with good looks. Now you can learn a bookbinding technique inspired by the piano hinge using paper and rods. Asato pursues book arts, paper arts, photography, calligraphy and doll arts. Her books have been in many juried shows, locally, nationally and internationally and some have won awards Cost is $35/$32 members, in addition to a $10 materials fee. The performance will be at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts on April 30, 2017. The musicians will join others to form the Distinguished Concerts Singers International. “The Waimea Community Chorus received this invitation because of the exceptional quality and high level of musicianship demonstrated by the singers.
