JACOB HEAD, DVM | BEST VETERINARIAN For the last eight years West Hawaii has voted Dr. Jacob Head Best Veterinarian. Dr. Head bought Keauhou Veterinary Hospital in 2007, with his family and sta he transformed the hospital into the first AAHA accredited veterinary practice on the Big Island. Dr. Head was born and raised on the Big Island. Graduating from Colorado State Veterinary School in 1998, he did Small Animal Surgery and Medicine in New Mexico. He has specialized training in fracture repair and soft tissue surgery. Dr. Head spent eight years in Emergency Medicine in Colorado, before becoming a Medical Director for a VCA hospital in Washington state prior to moving back to Hawaii. Dr. Head oers numerous specialty surgeries including the TTA and the TTA2 knee procedures as well as soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries, PDA heart surgery, back surgery, fracture repairs, and more. In addition to the surgical skill Dr. Head brings to the islands, Keauhou Veterinary Hospital is equipped with digital radiology, including X-ray, digital dental X-ray, and ultrasound. They have surgical and dental suites, a full in-house lab and full service pharmacy. The hospital also oers Direct Airport Release for new and established clients coming to Hawaii with their pets. Dr. Head is on the Board for the Hawaii Veterinary Medical Association and a member of numerous National Veterinary organizations. He maintains licenses in Colorado and Hawaii. Dr. Head, family and sta are very involved in our community. These include GEMS, classroom education, and hospital internships. The hospital sponsors athletic events, races and countless charities organizations, like PATH, Kona Brewers Festival (Bill Healy Foundation), Hospice of Kona, HIHS, and Special Olympics. Dr. Head believes in giving back and staying active. When he is not at work you can find Dr. Head and his family participating in numerous community events. Growing up playing football and soccer, he is still very involved in sports. Dr. Head found a new passion in triathlon. He has finished numerous IRONMAN and non-IRONMAN races, including last year’s 2015 IRONMAN World Championships, LAVAMAN, IM Vineman 70.3, IM Honu 70.3, Santa Barbara Triathlon long course and sprint course and more.
