The fun continued with interactive booths and displays, encouraging keiki and their families to be active together, enjoying the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle. Kona Commons and Kuleana Education hosted the annual Touch a Truck event in August. This free event provided kids of all ages the opportunity to explore working trucks of all types including emergency vehicles, military and construction trucks and the opportunity to meet the people who build, protect and serve on the Big Island. Special Olympics West Hawaii hosts their annual “Bus’ a Move” fundraising event at Kona Commons in September. In this annual event, supporters form teams of 10 to pull a Roberts Hawaii Charter Bus for 30 feet. Or teams determine the least number of members needed to pull a 16,500-pound AIRGAS vehicle 15 feet. A lot of muscle flexing for a good cause! Kona Commons kicks o the holiday season each year with Kailua Kalikimaka Dinner and a Movie, a family-friendly event featuring a holiday movie shown on a big screen in the parking lot. There’s photos with Santa, prize giveaways and free popcorn!
