Hilo man arrested after striking cars, home with stolen tractor-trailer A 30-year-old Hilo man is in police custody after he allegedly stole a tractor-trailer, struck two vehicles, a house and severed a utility pole. Solomon Aloha Kepano was arrested on suspicion of first-degree theft, fourth-degree theft, third-degree criminal property damage, accident involving damage to a vehicle or property and two counts of first-degree reckless endangering in connection with the incident reported at 7:17 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Hawaii Police Department. South Hilo officers responding to a call found several people restraining Kepano when they arrived. According to police, Kepano had tried to leave the scene. Witnesses told police the tractor-trailer had struck two vehicles and severed a utility pole before running off Pilipaa Street and striking a home. Officers determined the white Freightliner had been stolen from a business on Makaala Street and was observed driving through a closed gate. No one was injured in the incident, police said.
