Mikey Rabara
making noise at
McPherson
Mikey Rabara is mak-
ing a name for himself on
the McPherson College
football team.
Rabara was named the
school’s athlete of the
week, racking up 10 total
tackles and an inter-
ception in Mac’s foot-
ball game this Saturday
against Bethel. Of his
10 tackles, six were solo
stops. Rabara’s inter-
ception was returned
52 yards, setting up a
field goal attempt for the
Bulldogs. On the year,
the junior had 31 total
tackles and two intercep-
tions.

UH golfer Koga
garners Big West
honors after
season-opening win
After
leading
the
University of Hawai‘i
women’s golf team to
a tournament title and
winning medalist honors
at the Hobble Creek Fall
Classic, junior Eimi Koga
was named the Big West
Women’s Golfer of the
Month for September.
Koga made her UH
debut at the weath-
er-shortened
tourna-
ment in Spingville, Utah,
where she helped the
Rainbow Wahine to their
first title in 19 years.
Koga bested all com-
petitors with a 1-under
141 total at the 6,032-
yard Hobble Creek Golf
Course. Koga carded a
1-under 70 in the first
round and shot even par
71 in the second before
the third and final round
was canceled due to rain
and lightning.
UH’s team title was
the program’s first since
winning the 1996 Lady
Bronc Classic and just
the third in school his-
tory. Koga finished just
ahead of teammate
Raquel Ek and New
Mexico State’s Viviana
Macias, who tied for sec-
ond at 1-over 143.
Konawaena
basketball camp
and tournament
Konawaena basketball
will be running a basket-
ball camp next week from
Oct. 5-9 from 9 a.m. to
noon at the Konawaena
Gym. The cost is $20
per day and registration
starts at 8:30 a.m. daily.

Run and Keiki
Dip-n-Dash
UnitedHealthcare
is teaming up with
IRONKIDS for the second
IRONKIDS Keiki Dip-n-
Dash, aimed at inspiring
and motivating young
people to lead active,
positive and healthy life-
styles.
The UnitedHealthcare
IRONKIDS Fun Run and
Keiki Dip-n-Dash will
take place Oct. 6 at 4
p.m. at Kailua Pier.
Onsite
registration
begins at 3 p.m., and
each athlete will receive
a race bib, T-shirt, goodie
bag and finisher medal.
The course for “triath-
letes to be” will take
place along portions
of the IRONMAN World
Championship,
which
begins later in the week.
The cost for registra-
tion and to participate is
$10 for kids ages 2 to 15.
All participants must be
able to swim 150 yards in
open water, and no flota-
tion devices are allowed.
The distances include a
Keiki Run (ages 2-14):
¼ and 1 mile, and Keiki
Swim-Run (ages 6-14):
150 yard swim/1 mile

Recreation youth
leagues and clinics
The Department of
Parks and Recreation
Kona District will be hold-
ing a Biddy Basketball
League for girls and boys
5-8 years old. League
play is scheduled for
Oct. 13 to Dec. 8. The
league is also looking for
volunteers, coaches and
officials.

Challenge
The Club at Hokulia
will host the Wildcat Golf
Challenge on Nov. 16.
The two best ball of
four format with a shot-
gun start costs $250 per
golfer to enter. Entry fee
includes a cart and a gift
for all golfers.

fit the interscholastic
athletics program at
Konawaena High School.
