12 Sunday, July 31, 2016 Hawaii Tribune-Herald Economic Development This committee works to enhance the general business climate on Hawaii Island and to support a stable and healthy economy. The committee encourages development of new industries and the expansion of existing businesses on the Island of Hawaii which will enhance the general business climate. Recent events sponsored by HICC’s Economic Development Committee included an East Hawaii Manufacturing Tour for National Manufacturing Day Hawaii where members toured various manufacturing facilities to highlight the importance of manufacturing to not only our community’s economy, but to the U.S. economy as well; PISCES Luncheon hosted by the Pacific International Space Center for Exploration Systems; and “Best Practices for Family Business” presented by Hawaii Pacific Health. HICC has enlisted support from other Chambers of Commerce, business organizations, government, education and community to develop the Hawaii County Economic Development Planning Initiative whose goal is to develop a new vision and plans to re-energize our economy. The Chair of the Economic Development Committee is Chamber Vice President Gordon Takaki of CU Hawaii Federal Credit Union. Government Affairs The Government Affairs Committee (GAC) monitors legislative measures at all levels of government that may affect the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, its members, or the business community in general.
