Hawaii Tribune-Herald Island Beat Thursday, September 7, 2017 5 An exotic evening of burlesque at the Palace The Palace Theater will present “Tropical Tease: A Night of Cabaret,” featuring international burlesque stars as well as local favorites. Friday’s show will bring lots of glitter and glam, teases and talents, shenanigans and sexy sauntering. Come to the Palace for a royal night of burlesque you won’t forget. A year ago, some of the same performers donated their time and talent for a fantastic Palace fundraiser and they are back to do it again. What is burlesque? Burlesque mixes dance, theater and fashion to create a sensational mix of risqué performances, comic relief, alluring beauty and the unusual. Returning to host the show is Armitage Shanks, internationally acclaimed emcee sensation. Armitage is in demand all over the world. In the film “Glitter Tribe,” Shanks is shown in several cameo appearances in locations in Europe and across America. Armitage hails from Seattle but travels the world to introduce the best of the best in circus, burlesque and cabaret performers. Featured burlesque performer RedBone, originally from Minnesota, is internationally known. As a soloist, RedBone has been featured in burlesque festivals around the world and across the U.S. Whether break dancing on the floor or strutting across the stage, RedBone will mesmerize with her contortions and her beauty. Making her second appearance at the Palace is special guest artist Violetta Beretta, the originator, director and producer of the Hawaii Burlesque Festival now in its sixth year in Honolulu, which will take place one week after the Palace show. Violetta seduced and stunned the audience last year with her Armitage Shanks Violetta Beretta dancing and her costumes. Her sultry Hapa Hawaiian sway has been tantalizing audiences throughout Hawaii, the U.S. and Europe. “Tropical Tease: A Night of Cabaret” also will feature performances by several outstanding local cabaret, burlesque and circus performers. Don’t miss your chance to see Lady Lilly La Douce and Sandy LesBian of Acme Hourglass Burlesque. Joining the fun will be comedy and vaudeville artist Aileen Wilkie. Puna Men’s Chorus and conductor Devon Lerma will perform a couple of special tunes that will bring the show together, including one written by Shanks. Walter Greenwood will be entertaining the crowd before the show on the pipe organ. Patrons are encouraged to dress up local style in aloha print best, or wear whatever feels “tropical.” Due to adult language and near-nudity, only those 18 and older will be admitted to the show. Don’t miss this memorable night of fun and frivolity, set for 8 p.m. Friday at the Palace Theater, located at 38 Haili St., Hilo. Tickets start at $20. Call the Palace Box office for tickets at 934-7010. Reserved seating is available. LEFT: Vaudeville artist Aileen Wilkie.
