Hawaii Tribune-Herald Island Beat Thursday, July 27, 2017 5 Victoria Roos, also is performing in the show. “We will fill our two sets with breathtaking performances on silks and lyra (hoops) in solo and double acts, as well as fierce acrobatic dancing with props and partners,” Roos says. “Our audience will be stunned and surprised, hearts will be touched and the air will be filled with laughter and awe.” Airmaid Productions has choreographed four acts for the show: a dance chair acrobatic act in cabaret style, a lyra act with plenty of sparkles inspired by the song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” a silks act inspired by “The Taste of Liquid Skin,” a term Roos uses to describe her artistic vision, and a partner silks act with singer/actor/ acrobat Kat Reuss of Cirque Ohana. Other artists joining Airmaid Productions’ pieces are Chantel Durelli and Sarah Parnell of Cirque Hale and Kiai Jungle Retreats. “My personal ambition with my art is making people forget their limitations and their rational sense of reality,” Roos explains. “I want them to take a ‘mind vacation’ and listen to their passions. I want them to feel the courage it takes to be their true self and encourage them to go after what they believe no matter what.” Originally, Bal and Roos planned on showcasing this performance at the upcoming new theater in Waikoloa, but when the opening was delayed, they decided to see how it would be received in another location. “This is the first time that this island has seen a variety show that includes live music to circus acts and also has theatrical plays,” Roos says. “We combine all these aspects into one evening where everybody can find something they identify with. All these arts complement each other and open up a universe of possibilities.” Earlier this month, “Rendezvous” was performed in Kona at the Aloha Theatre to a warm welcome, Harsh says, noting that the crowd doubled the evening of the second show. “Audiences were very gracious and responsive to what they thought was funny, shocking and mesmerizing,” she says. “You love to hear that as an actor. At this Kahilu Theatre show, being our last performance, audiences can expect the slickness and smoothness of the cast that has performed the show twice already.” It’s a perfect “date night,” adds Roos. “The show is impressive, attractive, full of humor and you will definitely feel inspired. It will make your heart sing and give you a proper kick of motivation to get involved in the arts yourself. ” Waimea Community Theatre is an amateur theater group that puts on three or four theatrical productions a year at various Big Island theaters, including Parker School Theatre, Honokaa People’s Theatre, Kahilu Theatre and Aloha Theatre. “We hope that this will be the pioneer project for more variety shows in the future — variety shows of different themes,” Harsh says. “And if there’s a theme that audiences would like to see, they can let us know at waimeacommunitytheatre. org.” Roos agrees, saying, “Ideally, we will continue to color in different themes like a Christmas show, a Halloween show or a Polynesian show, just to give an example, and invite more guest artists and cross over all the arts this island has to offer.” Tickets for the final performance of “Rendezvous” are $28, available at kahilutheatre. org or by calling 885-6868.
