2 Thursday, July 27, 2017 “Rendezvous” is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea. An evening ‘Rendezvous’ in Waimea Waimea Community Theatre presents its first variety show, “Rendezvous,” at 8 p.m. Saturday at Kahilu Theatre — a collaborative production between WCT, Airmaid Productions, Lorenzo’s Army and Amy Mills. The show features two short plays by Hanner Harsh and Dave Merrin, plus live music by Lorenzo’s Army and dynamic aerial burlesque acts by local acrobats. Due to certain content, this show is intended for audiences ages 16 and older. Harsh directs “The Rendezvous,” one of the two one-act plays. “It’s a sex comedy about a husband who goes to meet his extramarital lover at a hotel room but is actually greeted by his wife first. Then later, his lover finally arrives and alliances shift between the lying husband, the scorned wife, and the not-so-clueless lover,” says Harsh, who is also an actress in the three-person play. There are 17 performers in the variety show, many of whom perform islandwide with different groups in various theaters. “You’re guaranteed to see them Courtesy photo again in different capacities,” Harsh says. “And unlike other main stage productions, variety shows allow us to showcase not only our actors, singers and production team members, but the talent of other performance groups such as Lorenzo’s Army and Airmaid Productions. Collaboration is key on the Big Island.” Adds show producer Daniel Bal, “The show moves along quickly so audiences don’t get bored. The two one-act plays are 15 minutes each and the acrobat/aerial performances are 30 minutes with several music numbers featuring various vocal talent as well. Hearing an opera-trained singer perform with a rock ’n’ roll band is worth the ticket price alone.” Owner of Airmaid Productions, Katie Young YAMANAKA Big Island Vibe w July 27 2017 4.
