Hawaii Tribune-Herald Island Beat Thursday, May 25, 2017 3 Island Dance Academy presents “Mary Poppins,” a storybook show about everybody’s favorite magical British nanny — told through ballet, jazz and tap dance to the show’s familiar tunes, plus recorded dialogue. There are two performances of the production, which also features elaborate sets and gorgeous costumes, at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the University of Hawaii at Hilo Performing Arts Center. This year’s cast has 150 dancers, ranging in age from 4 to 25. Tatiana Ferreira portrays the wise and wonderful Mary Poppins, who magically turns every chore into a game and every day into a whimsical adventure. Others in the cast include: Mariah Baji as Jane Banks; Jada Leite as Michael Banks; Jerrid Eyer as Mr. Banks; Zoi Nakamura as Mrs. Banks and the head banker; Bernard-Benjamin Villa as Bert, the chimney sweep and jack-of-all-trades; Milan Ragasa as Mrs. Corey, the candy maker; Alyssa Jitchaku and Kassidy Wilson as Mrs. Corey’s daughters; Caitlyn Ito as Katie Nana; Kyle Kaleo as the policeman; and Alexia Iwamoto as the bird woman. Studio owner and producer Suen Hughes is co-director with teacher Olivia Sandstrom, who has a pre-med/dance major from Chapman University in California. Sandstrom began her dance career at Island Dance Academy when she was 9. General admission is $18, seniors 60 and older $15, and children 12 and younger $12.
