ne day, 9-year-old Suzi Bond told her mother she was bored, so her mom handed her a copy of an Agatha Christie book she had on hand. “My grandmother read the books and passed them on to my mom, who passed them on to me,”Bond recalls. “It is a family thing. She’d always be like, ‘Where are you in the book?’ It was a ‘spoiler alert’ before that term existed. But it was always fun because we could talk about the book after.” Bond, Kilauea Drama and Entertainment Network executive director, decided it was time to bring the group’s third Christie murder mystery to the stage — something her mother, Anna Derby Blackwell, would enjoy because she never missed a production. Late last year, Bond’s mother died suddenly. But in theater, the show must go on and, though still grieving, Bond is paying tribute to the memory of her mother in KDEN’s spring production, Christie’s “Murder on the Nile.” Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Fridays and 6-7 Thursday, March 16, 2017 ‘Murder KDEN PRESENTS on the Nile’ Show not only a tribute to Agatha Christie, but also in memory of Bond’s late mother By KATIE YOUNG YAMANAKA Special to the Tribune-Herald
