4 Thursday, February 9, 2017 Island Beat Hawaii Tribune-Herald All-female chamber music ensemble returns Considered by many to be the most sought-after classical music trio, the all-female Eroica Trio returns at 4 p.m. Sunday to the Kahilu Theatre for the first time in a decade. The trio will also perform at the University of Hawaii at Hilo Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 p.m. “First of all, we are more than 10 times better than we were 10 years ago,” jokes cellist Sara Sant’Ambrogio. “Actually, we have a new violinist, Sara Parkins. Sara and I first started playing together at music camp when we were 15 years old. “She then went to Julliard pre-college with Erika (Nickrenz) and played with her there. A couple of years later, Sara and I were roommates and chamber music mates while at Curtis Institute of Music in Philly. Our musical lives have been crisscrossing for years and we are thrilled to finally make it official.” The Grammy nominated Eroica Trio will weave its way through musical masterpieces including “Chaconne” by Bach, “Otoño Porteño” and “Primavera Porteña” by Piazzolla, “Aria” by Villa-Lobos and “Dumky Trio” by Dvorák. The first all-female chamber music ensemble to reach the top echelon of the field, the trio has extensively toured the United States, Europe, the Middle East, South America and Asia, and released eight critically lauded recordings. “I think any art form that expresses what is best about humanity is sorely needed in any time but particularly in a time where the public discourse has become so rude and mean-spirited,” Sant’Ambrogio says. “Music expresses the inexpressible.” She adds, “Our lives are becoming increasingly isolated behind electronic screens, so a live performance where you have hundreds of people all going on an emotional journey together, witnessing the pursuit of the impossible, is a very powerful and transformative experience. We hope that the audience leaves our concerts feeling the music live on in them for days, if not weeks, after.” Waimea What: Chamber music ensemble Eroica Trio in concert.
