6-7 Thursday, February 2, 2017 Empowering by design Zonta Fashion Frenzy Special to the Tribune-Herald T he biennial Zonta Fashion Frenzy is a venue for local designers and businesses to showcase their talents and inspire others in the fashion industry, with a spotlight on Hawaii’s homegrown talent. This year’s event Feb. 9-11 includes a new “Dine Like a Diva” fashion-inspired dinner, followed by a Friday night market and culminating in a runway collection fashion show headlined by Kojo Couture and 19th & Whimsy. Each Zonta Fashion Frenzy event puts the Zonta Club of Hilo’s mission to empower women at the forefront. At 6:30 p.m. Feb. 9, the Frenzy features “Dine Like a Diva” at Wainaku Executive Center. Jasmine Silverstein of HeartBeet Catering and Casey Halpern of Café Pesto have created a locally sourced, fashion-inspired menu featuring various heavy pupu that were designed with fashion elements in mind, whether it be silhouettes of a dress, fabric texture, color or a designer’s collection theme. “We felt like we needed an event to get us hyped up and kick off the festivities,” says event co-chairwoman Ashley Kierkiewicz of the latest addition to the Frenzy. “We also want to spotlight our local foods and engage as many women as we can to pull this together. Jasmine will showcase her creativity in the kitchen.
