Hawaii Tribune-Herald For more than 50 years, John Mayall has served as a pioneer of blues music, which earned him the title, “The Godfather of British Blues.” After 64 albums and on the verge of turning 83 (his birthday is in five days), Mayall, a Blues Hall of Fame inductee, continues to not only tour across the country and abroad, but also create new music. “Every time I make an album, I always feel I owe it to my fans to come up with fresh and varied interpretations of the blues,” says Mayall, who grew up in a village near Manchester, England. Decades of original song compositions also makes for exciting live performances. “We are still doing a completely different set list each night as there are so many great songs to choose from my extensive catalog,” Mayall says. “This allows us to create formidably.” Fans can catch Mayall live on the Big Island at two shows: 7 p.m. Friday at the Palace Theater and 7 p.m. UK John perform Blues By KATIE YOUNG YAMANAKA Special to the Tribune-Herald See BLUES Page 9
