Tickets: $12 General; $7 Keiki 10 & Under Available at the Box Office or by phone with a Credit Card, 10am-3pm 38 HAILI ST ~ HILO ~ 934-7010 Courtesy photo Pianist Cheryl “Quack” Moore and oboeist-bassoonist Roland “Ohrlando” Maurer will be featured in concert at 4 p.m. Saturday in Kahilu Theatre’s Steinway Series in Waimea. ‘Quack’ and ‘Ohrlando’ play Sunday Two of Hawaii Island’s foremost classical musicians, Cheryl “Quack” Moore and Roland “Ohrlando” Maurer, are featured in the third installment of the Steinway Series, 4 p.m. Sunday at Kahilu Theatre in Waimea. Pianist Anthony Maroudis will make a guest appearance, joining Moore at the piano for a fourhand work by Maurice Ravel. Moore, née Cheryl Hardwick, retired to Hilo in 2001, having spent 25 years on “Saturday Night Live” as a band member, composer, and music director. She holds a masters degree from Juilliard School of Music and won two Emmys as a composer for Sesame Street. In 2014 she retired from the Palace Theater Board of Directors where she served for 12 years as president. Moore has been music director for all 14 of the Palace’s fall musicals and she remains active in performing arts on the Big Island. Maurer studied oboe and bassoon at Zurich Conservatory in Switzerland and has been a teacher, professional musician and conductor in orchestras, symphonies, operas and chamber music groups. In 2011 he moved to Hawaii Island and founded Ohrlando’s Chamber Ensemble, which regularly performs islandwide. South African-born Maroudas studied with Lamar Crowson, pianist in the Melos Ensemble of London. As a soloist and ensemble player, he’s performed in South Africa, London, Greece and the U.S. In 2006, he relocated from Seattle to Hilo where he maintains an active schedule in his piano-teaching studio. The program will include works by Napoléon Coste, Alexandre Tansman, Theodore Lalliet, Maurice Ravel, Francis Poulenc, and Camille Saint-Saëns. Doors open at 3 p.m. and there will be snacks and beverages available for sale at the Kahilu Theatre bar. The Spirits of the Pacific Islands and Oceans exhibit is showing in the Kohala Gallery and the Transcending Palms exhibit is showing in the Hamakua Gallery. The Steinway Series is a series of performances showcasing Kahilu Theatre’s Model D Steinway concert grand piano at accessible ticket prices.
