Hawaii Tribune-Herald A story about Hawaii, family is told through dance in ‘Pohaku’ Storytelling, hula, modern dance, classical music and projection design come together in “Pohaku,” a compelling solo dance performance that explores universal themes in the story of Hawaii’s people through one man’s personal journey. The narrative that inspired the piece are those of show creator Christopher Kau‘i Morgan, a dancer/choreographer who is the artistic and executive director of his own contemporary dance company, Christopher K. Morgan & Artists, in Washington, D.C. Native Hawaiian issues, land loss and fractured identity are important themes of this hourlong show coming to the Big Island for two performances: at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Kahilu Theatre in Waimea and 7 p.m. Wednesday at the University of Hawaii at Hilo Performing Arts Center. “Pohaku” already has been performed in Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Minnesota and Maui. Morgan’s career as a dancer has taken him all around the world — to 18 countries on identity found By KATIE YOUNG YAMANAKA Special to the Tribune-Herald See POHAKU Page 9
