4 Thursday, September 8, 2016 Island Beat Hawaii Tribune-Herald Trixie Little of the Pomaikai Senior Center for decades. Even after battling breast cancer and undergoing two knee-replacement surgeries, Williams still has that spark and zest for life that makes you smile from ear-toear. Armitage Shanks, internationally acclaimed host/emcee, cabaret singer, character performer and show director, will serve as host for the evening. As one of the most sought after performers on the international cabaret scene, Shanks, “The Carny Preacher,” is the co-founder and Ringmaster of Circus Contraption, a one-ring traveling circus which has performed nationally and internationally for more than 12 years. He has helped to produce and direct a long list of performances, international festivals and fundraising affairs and continues to promote many rising stars in the vaudeville/cabaret community. Shanks says that cabaret performances showcase what’s possible with the human imagination. “These are people who are having ideas and manifesting them — working them in a way that brings all these people together under one roof. “We are typically told what we can enjoy and what’s valid,” says Shanks, who will also host the Hawaii Burlesque Festival on Oahu later this month. “Seeing people on a human scale, being wildly imaginative is what our world desperately needs right now.” He adds that he thinks it’s important for people to keep a sense of playfulness, no matter what their age. “A Night of Cabaret” will bring comedy and satire, a bit of edgy cabaret, a bit of dark performance as well as plenty of circus arts.
